Out on the Trail: Scenery Package
Your subject can roam through any backdrop your heart imagines. They might stand proud on a rocky ridge with the valley below, wander through a sun-dappled forest, rest beside a quiet mountain stream, or be framed by golden fields at sunset. Maybe they are curled up on a favourite blanket by the cabin window, or caught mid-leap in the wide-open wilderness. Wherever your vision takes them, we will wrangle it into a painting that feels alive and true.
Take a look at the samples below to see how other companions, wild creatures, and frontier spirits have found their place in their own landscapes. Your painting does not need to match them exactly. Each one is as unique as the land and creatures themselves.

The Frontier Path: Your Painting's Journey
First Step - Whisper your Vision
After you fill out the “request a quote” form, I’ll follow up by text or email to hear all about your subject(s) – whether it’s a loyal ranch dog, a spirited farm cat, a wild creature of the frontier, or a cherished farm favourite. We’ll chat about the scenery you’d like them to inhabit, maybe a sun-dappled forest, a mountain ridge, a quiet stream, or a golden field at sunset. Before we ride on to the next step, know that I offer two payment options: full payment upfront or payment arrangements, which I’ll explain when we discuss the price.
Second Step - By the Easel
Once we’ve saddled up on your vision, I’ll send over the price list and help you figure out the right size for your wall, one that will do justice to your subject and the scenery they’ll be in.
After your spot is secured, I’ll send over my email so you can round up as many photos of your subject(s) as you like. The more I have, the truer I can capture their spirit in the landscape you’ve chosen.
Note: The deposit is non-refundable, because you are reserving a spot on my calendar/waitlist and by doing so it will place you in the queue. Once your spot is secured, that time slot is exclusively reserved for you. In doing so, I would be turning down other potential wranglers, clients who would have been able to fill the said spot, hence the non-refundable deposit.

Note: Each painting takes a few weeks to a few months to complete, depending on the size and complexity. My schedule is currently full until late 2028, but I’m still welcoming new commissions. It is an honour to see your companions and the landscapes they inhabit come to life on the easel.
Third Step - Choosing your Trail
Now that your spot is secured and the size and price are settled, we’ll round up your reference photos and decide on the pose for each subject. I’ll also prepare samples to explore how your chosen scenery works with your subject, so we can pick the composition and mood that feels right.
If you’ve booked more than one subject for the same painting and they cannot be photographed together, do not worry. I can wrangle the shots you do have into a harmonious scene. Even if new photos are not possible, I can still work with what is on hand and may create a mock-up to ensure the final piece shines.
When taking new photos, please aim for eye-level shots that show the subject’s full face, ears, chest, and body while you are sitting on the ground. Not too far away and not too close, just enough to capture their spirit clearly for the painting.
This step gives us a chance to collaborate and make sure every detail feels right before I start sketching your piece into the scenery.
Fourth Step - bringing it to Life
Once you’ve approved the pose and the scenery composition, I’ll saddle up and begin the sketch. I’ll send you a photo of the sketch so you can see how your companion and their landscape are shaping up.
After the sketch, the pose is set and cannot be changed, and the scenery layout will stay true once it is painted.
I’ll share photos along the way and film the painting in progress so you can watch your piece come to life. I’ll also check in to make sure the colours for eyes, nose, mouth, fur, feathers, or fur textures are just right. When the painting is finished, I’ll send you the final photo to confirm everything feels true to your vision. You’ll see your piece take shape, step by step, like a sunrise over the frontier.
Fifth Step - Final Ride
Once your painting is ready and the final photos are taken, I will carefully package it up and include all the instructions to keep it looking its best. I will let you know when I am heading off to the Post Office so you can have your phone ready to send the shipping payment.
While I am there, I will send you the shipping quote in writing by text or email, including the cost of handling, insurance, and any tariffs or customs duties if it is crossing borders, along with the tracking number. Once the payment is sent, I will take care of the shipping in person to make sure it arrives safely. If the payment is not ready at that moment, your painting will stay with me until you are able to send it.

Sixth Step - Frontier Debut
When it’s time to share your painting on social media, I’ll check in with you first. You can let me know if it’s a surprise gift or if it’s okay to share publicly. If it’s a surprise, I might show a little sneak peek or short footage without names so the surprise stays safe. I can also wait until after it’s gifted to share, just in case they’re following my pages.
I’ll always confirm in writing by text or email so we’re both on the same page. This way, your piece is shared exactly how you want while keeping the spirit of the frontier and your painting intact.
Do you want a gradient background instead?
If your companion feels more at home against a simple backdrop, we can place them on a smooth, one-of-a-kind Gradient background instead. Gentle light-to-dark fades, rich dark-to-light sweeps, or any colour you like will let their spirit shine without distraction. They’ll feel present and true, as if they’ve always belonged on the easel.

Commission FAQ
​how long am i booked for?
My books are currently full until late 2028, though I’m still welcoming new commissions onto my waitlist.
If you feel called to have your companion painted, fill out the quote form above and tell me about them. I’ll respond within 24 to 96 hours by text or email so we can talk it through and see what feels right.
If you choose to wait until 2028 to reach out, there’s a chance my calendar may already be spoken for again. Booking ahead secures your place in line. For example, if you reserve your spot today, your portrait would be started and completed in 2028.
The waiting season gives you time to gather new photos or sit with your vision while the months pass. When your turn comes around, I’ll begin your portrait, and the creation timeline will depend on the size and complexity of the piece.
how long does it take to create a painting?
Each painting takes a few weeks to a few months to finish. It depends on the size of the piece and how much there is to bring to life. Some paintings have more to wrangle than others – the shine in an eye, the swirl of fur or feathers, the curve of a hoof or paw, or the tilt of a head. Every detail matters, and I let it settle naturally as the painting grows.
In the studio, I work steady and gentle, layer by layer, letting the piece come together at its own pace. I never rush a painting. Some need more time than others, and that is part of what makes each one special. When it finally leaves my hands, it feels ready and true to the spirit of your companion, whether it’s a loyal ranch dog, a spirited farm favourite, a wild creature of the frontier, or any cherished friend of yours.
I keep you updated along the way and can provide progress photos so you can watch your subject come to life on the easel.
is there a tracking number and insurance?
You bet. Every painting that leaves the studio comes with tracking and full transit insurance, so you can follow its journey from my studio to your doorstep.
• Tracking: You’ll get the tracking number as soon as the painting is shipped, so you can watch it travel every step of the way.
• Insurance: Covers damage during transit, giving you peace of mind that if anything happens on the road, I’ll create a replacement or similar piece. As long as I am fully refunded.
• Important note: Insurance covers transit only - once the painting reaches your hands, it’s your responsibility to handle and display it safely.
Your painting rides out pre-packaged, padded, and reinforced, traveling in one trip only, protected with the same care I would give my own prized pieces.
All sales are final and non-refundable.
what happens if i decide to cancel?
If a client chooses to cancel a commission after booking, all payments, including the deposit, are non-refundable. This is because your spot on my calendar was exclusively reserved just for you, and I’ve turned down other potential clients who could have filled that spot.
Cancelling doesn’t undo the time, materials, or effort already set aside for your portrait, so it’s important to be certain before booking.
This mirrors the terms in the contract - once your spot is booked and payment arranged, your painting is officially reserved.
How do I display and protect my painting?
Every painting rides out of my studio with love, care, and top-notch, high-archival materials, built to last for a lifetime. I always tuck in Art Care Instructions so you know exactly how to handle and display your piece safely.
• Pastels: Only touch the border, not the painted surface - this keeps the colours vibrant and smudge-free. I do not use fixative, so your artwork stays true and beautiful for a lifetime. Pastel portraits will arrive in a temporary frame and lid, which should stay on until you take it to a professional framer. They’ll peel it off properly so your portrait can be framed safely and shine in all its glory.
• Acrylics and oils: These portraits come with a hanger on the back, so they’re ready to hang on your wall as soon as they arrive. If you’d like, they can also be framed in a floating frame for extra protection or presentation. They’re finished to guard against dust and light, but it’s best to keep them out of direct sunlight and extreme humidity.
When shipping, each painting is carefully wrapped, padded, and reinforced through my Collector Protection & Transit Preparation process, so it travels safely and arrives ready for you to display or frame as you wish.
